Our Story
THE STORY
Mouftah El Chark is the home of fashion, accessories and homeware inspired by the Modern Orient. We believe in craftsmanship, art and culture.
It all started in 1996 in a Lebanese mountain house where our family would narrate tales of the Orient. Twenty seven years later, we grew far beyond our mountain house, our collections have soared above the skies, and landed in homes here and beyond. Today, Mouftah El Chark is the epitome of oriental design and fashion, carrying curated collections of beautifully detailed abayas, dresses, bags, shoes, trays, boxes, tableware, and so much more.
We draw inspiration from the modern oriental culture and work with local Lebanese artisans narrating the stories of past and present. Our mission is to create designs that pay tribute to our rich cultural heritage.
WORDS FROM NICOLE AND FOUAD, THE SISTER AND THE BROTHER BEHIND THE BRAND
"In 1996, after completing studies in fashion design at UCLA, I came back to Lebanon with the dream of creating elegant abayas for the contemporary Lebanese women. And I founded Mouftah El Chark on the belief that abayas will never go out of style. It all started with a sketchbook and my grandmother’s sewing machine.” – Nicole
“It was our father Rafic who inspired the brand’s name, which literally means in Arabic key to Orient, and this is what we have been offering to our clientele, a key to the Orient, literally.” – Fouad
